Autoimmune Paleo Diet

No comments Auto immunity, Paleo

There have been modifications to the Paleo diet over recent years and there is an autoimmune protocol which I would highly recommend for anyone suffering from an autoimmune condition. It addresses four key health areas- good nutrition, gut health, inflammation and immune system regulation. To be clear it’s a lifestyle choice rather than a diet and as a general guide it is recommended to stay on the strict protocol for one month and then slowly reintroduce some foods and measure how the body responds. You will quickly learn which foods exacerbate your condition. Below is a guide of foods to include and avoid.

Include-

Fruits

Vegetables

Meat

Seafood

Healthy fats (coconut oil, ghee, olive oil)

Fermented foods

Herbs and spices

Mushrooms

Avoid-

Nightshade vegetables (eggplant, potato, red pepper, tomato, cayenne pepper, goji berries, hot peppers, paprika)

Eggs (egg yolk may be tolerated)

Coffee

Nuts and seeds

Dairy

Grains

Processed food & sugars

Legumes and beans

Processed vegetable oils

Alcohol

Your journey towards health can include a change in diet without sacrificing flavour or enjoyment of foods and learning to cook in new ways can be both interesting and rewarding. For more information on the Autoimmune Paleo Diet you can view the following great resources-
